The word ‘Warung’ comes from the popular street food stalls of Indonesia where people enjoy sitting outside to eat together as a social occasion with friends or family.
Authentic Indonesian food is at it’s best here and this is where the real taste of Indonesia can be found. We wanted to recreate this gastronomic experience at reasonable prices here in London for you to try.
‘Bumbu’ is the word for a mix of spices and this is represented in the flavours of the food. It is usually blended to a paste before marinating, frying or boiling to release the aromas. The ‘bumbu’ used in the dishes are made up of an array of spices such as garlic, shallots, chillies, ginger, lemongrass, galangal, lesser galangal and turmeric. We also use nutmeg, cloves, coriander seeds, fennel seeds, cardamom, and cinnamon. Alongside we use leaves such as lime, turmeric, salam, to name but a few. Not forgetting shrimp paste, pungent to say the least and tamarind to add a hint of sourness to our dishes.
We want to introduce you to some foods that you may have not tried before so don’t be afraid to ask about what is on our menu. There are dishes, which are mild and aromatic, and some are hot and spicy.
We hope you enjoy our food and will be cooking other inviting dishes in the future for you to try. In the meantime please enjoy browsing the current menu and we are sure there will be something you cannot wait to try.
