Domart opened in Kuala Lumpur in June 2023 as a minimarket dedicated entirely to Indonesian products, a concept unusual enough that Indonesia's own Minister of Trade, Zulkifli Hasan, traveled to Malaysia to cut the ribbon at its opening. The store was founded by three Indonesian entrepreneurs, Wachidal Mustafa Dimyani, Baban Muhammad Robbannie, and Nur Lailatul Zuhro, who had already been importing food products from Indonesian small and medium enterprises before deciding to open a physical retail outlet.

According to coverage of the opening, roughly 60 percent of what Domart stocks comes directly from Indonesian UMKM, the government's term for micro, small, and medium enterprises, making the shop as much a distribution channel for Indonesian producers as a convenience store for homesick shoppers. The shelves cover the staples familiar to any Indonesian household abroad: instant noodles, spice pastes and seasoning mixes, dried goods, sauces, and packaged snacks, alongside halal-certified prepared foods.

At the opening ceremony, Minister Zulkifli described Domart as more than a shop, framing it as a symbol of economic cooperation between Indonesia and Malaysia and a bridge for Indonesian small businesses looking to enter the Malaysian market. The founders have said they hope to expand the concept further across Malaysia, with plans at the time of opening to open additional branches within the following year, and to eventually add a small eatery and coffee corner inside future locations.

The store operates out of Plaza KLTS, a shopping complex on Jalan Gombak in the Setapak district of Kuala Lumpur, an area with a significant population of Indonesian students and migrant workers. It is open daily from 11:00 AM to 11:00 PM. For Indonesians living in or visiting Kuala Lumpur, Domart fills a gap that had been largely served by informal importers and smaller convenience stores, offering a dedicated, government-recognized retail space for Indonesian goods in a city with a substantial Indonesian community but, until recently, no equivalent storefront.
