About Kelompok Tari Tradisional Indonesia (KTTI) KBRI Seoul

Kelompok Tari Tradisional Indonesia (KTTI) is an amateur Indonesian traditional dance group that has operated out of the Indonesian Embassy in Seoul since 2009, marking its seventeenth anniversary in April 2026. Open to members of any nationality with no registration fee or formal audition required, the group draws participants from the city's Indonesian community as well as Korean residents with an interest in Indonesian culture. Rehearsals are generally held on Saturday afternoons and evenings at the embassy premises, where the group also connects with a related weekly gamelan class that the embassy has run in partnership with the Seoul Institute of the Arts since 2018, taught by instructor Sugiarto. Academic writing on Indonesia's cultural diplomacy in South Korea between 2021 and 2025 has cited the gamelan and dance programming at the embassy as part of a broader effort to present Indonesian performing arts to a Korean audience.

KTTI performs at both diplomatic and public cultural events. It opened Festival Indonesia 2024 in Seoul, an annual showcase of Indonesian art and culture covered in Indonesian press, and the group has also appeared at commercial and trade events such as the Korea Import Expo and GME Global Stage in 2026. Its repertoire draws on traditional dance forms from across the Indonesian archipelago, often performed in full traditional costume to recorded or live gamelan accompaniment.

Because KTTI operates as an embassy affiliated activity rather than an independent organization with its own premises, it has no separate office, phone line, or email of its own; inquiries are generally directed through the embassy's own channels or through the group's social media presence, which is used to announce rehearsal schedules and upcoming performances. The embassy itself is located on Yeouidaebang-ro in Yeongdeungpo-gu, on Yeouido island in the Han River, a part of Seoul that also houses South Korea's National Assembly and major financial institutions. For members of the Indonesian diaspora in Seoul interested in traditional dance, gamelan, or simply connecting with other Indonesians through the arts, KTTI offers one of the few standing, recurring opportunities to do so outside of one off festival appearances organized by the embassy.
