Plataran is an Indonesian hospitality group known at home for resorts and restaurants in places such as Bali and Borobudur, and its Tokyo outpost is the brand's first in Japan. It is not a standalone building but a floor of a department store: the restaurant occupies the seventh floor of LUMINE 1 at 1-1-5 Nishi-Shinjuku, directly above the western side of Shinjuku Station, one of the busiest transport hubs in the world.

The cooking is broader than the phrase Indonesian restaurant suggests. The kitchen describes its food as international, drawing on Western and other Asian influences alongside Indonesian ones, so the menu ranges from satay through to dishes closer to pan-Asian comfort food, ramen among them. It places a stated emphasis on non-pork options, which widens who can eat there, though it does not advertise formal halal certification, so anyone who requires certified halal should confirm directly before visiting.

The setting is a department-store flagship rather than a neighbourhood warung: a large, designed dining room aimed at shoppers, office workers and travellers moving through Shinjuku, carrying the resort brand's styling over from Indonesia. Service runs through the day in a single stretch, from late morning until late in the evening, seven days a week, with distinct lunch and dinner menus across that span.

For Indonesians in Tokyo the draw is partly the brand itself, a familiar name from home, and partly the location, since Shinjuku is reachable from almost anywhere in the metropolitan area. It is a different proposition from the small family-run Indonesian kitchens found elsewhere in the city, and it is best understood as a resort-brand restaurant with Indonesian roots rather than a traditional rumah makan serving home cooking.

Getting there is as easy as any address in Tokyo can be. LUMINE 1 sits directly at the Shinjuku Station west exit, served by the JR lines, the Odakyu and Keio railways and several subway lines, so the restaurant is a lift ride up from the concourse rather than a walk through the streets. The department-store location also means it keeps regular retail hours and takes reservations, which suits the group bookings the brand tends to attract.
