Sekolah Indonesia Kuala Lumpur is the Indonesian government school for the diaspora in Malaysia, operating under the Indonesian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur. Teaching is in Bahasa Indonesia and follows the Indonesian national curriculum, which is grounded in Pancasila and the 1945 Constitution. The school also keeps the Indonesian academic year, running July to June rather than the Malaysian calendar. That alignment matters for families who expect to return home, because pupils can move between SIKL and a school in Indonesia without losing a year.

Provision covers the full sequence: kindergarten, primary at SD level, junior secondary at SMP level and senior secondary at SMA level, taking pupils from roughly age three to eighteen. At SMA, students choose between the MIPA science stream and the IPS social sciences stream. In 2013 Indonesia's National Accreditation Board awarded the school an A rating across all levels, and it is registered with Malaysia's Ministry of Education.

The origins lie in the reopening of Indonesian representation in Malaysia in the late 1960s. Embassy staff needed schooling for their children, and the first attempt ran with two teachers, Umar Rauf and Rawi Hadis, holding class once a week on Saturdays before funding ran out. Muhammad Alwi Oemry, then education and culture attache, restarted it with the backing of Ambassador H.A. Thalib, and the school opened formally on 10 July 1969. The Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture recognised it through decision number 05/1971 in January 1971.

The remit extends past school-age children. SIKL runs Kejar Paket equivalency programmes at primary, junior and senior secondary level for adults who left school early, and hosts a distance learning centre for Universitas Terbuka that has operated since 2012. It has also offered free computer and English classes for Indonesian workers in Malaysia, and a community learning centre attached to the embassy operates alongside the school.

The campus sits at No 1 Lorong Tun Ismail in central Kuala Lumpur, a side road off Jalan Tun Ismail. Tuition figures are not published online, and families are directed to contact the school for current rates and admission requirements.
