About Sekolah Indonesia Pelangi (Pelangi Indonesia School)

Sekolah Indonesia Pelangi began in early 2011 under the Indonesian-Australian Families Association of New South Wales (IAFA NSW) Incorporated, holding its first classes at Leumeah High School in Campbelltown, in Sydney's southwest. What started as a small weekend program for a handful of families has since grown into a community language school with classes also running at Smith's Hill High School in Wollongong and at Kogarah High School in southern Sydney.

Since 2012 the school has received funding and facility support from the NSW Government's Department of Education as part of its community languages program, and it follows the Indonesian K-10 Syllabus published by the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) in 2018. Roughly 70 students currently attend across the three locations, ranging from preschool and kindergarten age through to Year 12, with some classes also open to adult learners. Teaching is carried out by volunteer educators, several of whom have been recognized individually for community service, including contributions to preserving Indonesian language and culture among the diaspora and organizing cultural performances such as traditional music and dance for students and their families.

The curriculum extends beyond language instruction to include Indonesian history and cultural practices, and the school has organized presentation days and performance nights that draw participation from local Indonesian community organizations, including groups supporting Indonesian women in Australia and broader arts and culture initiatives. Coordination with the Indonesian Consulate in Sydney has also featured in some of the school's public events.

Families interested in enrollment are directed to contact the school's principal by email, with enrolment forms available for download through the NSW Department of Education's community language schools portal. Because the program operates out of NSW public high school campuses on weekends rather than maintaining a standalone facility, contact details and term dates are best confirmed directly with the school before attending, particularly for families new to the Campbelltown, Wollongong, or Kogarah locations.
