For more than thirty years, Toko Frederik has been a fixture of the Frederikstraat shopping street in The Hague's Willemspark neighborhood, a few streets beyond the city center and close to Noordeinde Palace, the Binnenhof and the Koninklijke Schouwburg. The Hague itself has an unusually large concentration of Indonesian "toko" eateries, a legacy of Indonesian-Dutch families who settled in the city from the early 1950s onward after Indonesian independence, and informal counts put the number of such businesses in the city at over sixty, more than any other city in the Netherlands.
