About Djakarta Bali

Djakarta Bali is an Indonesian and Balinese restaurant in the heart of Paris, at 9 rue Vauvilliers in the 1st arrondissement, a short walk from the Louvre and Les Halles. Open since the mid-1980s, it is one of the rare Indonesian tables in Paris and one of the city's longest-running. It was founded by Nin, the daughter of a minister and ambassador under President Sukarno, and it remains a family-run ambassador for Indonesian cooking in France, listed in Le Figaro's selection in 2024. The cooking covers Java, Sumatra and Bali, served in an ethnic, chic dining room where dinner is accompanied by the sound of gamelan. The iconic dishes are rendang daging, slow-cooked beef in coconut milk, the nasi goreng special with grilled chicken fillet and satay peanut sauce, and mie ayam, Indonesian wheat noodles with caramelised chicken, mushrooms and pak choi. For a fuller tour of the cuisine, the Menu Degustation Bandung is a rijsttafel tasting menu of small traditional dishes served with rice. The kitchen uses no monosodium glutamate. On the first Friday of every month except August, dinner comes with a Balinese dance show, with dancers performing warrior dances from Bali and slower, more formal dances from Java, which makes the restaurant a natural choice for a romantic evening or a celebration. The restaurant also hosts private and professional events, from weddings and birthdays to team dinners and product launches, with full privatisation available. It is open Tuesday to Sunday for lunch from 12:00 to 14:00 and for dinner from 18:30 to 23:00, and closed on Mondays and for Tuesday lunch. Bookings can be made by phone on +33 1 45 08 83 11.
