About BNI Seoul
BNI opened its Seoul branch on 14 February 2016, after the Financial Services Commission of Korea granted it a licence the previous November. The office occupies the second and sixth floors of the KCCI Building at 39 Sejong-daero in Jung-gu, in the government and business core of central Seoul. It operates as a full branch of the Indonesian state bank rather than a representative office, which is what allows it to take deposits and lend within Korea.
For the large Indonesian community in Korea, most of them workers under the Employment Permit System, the service that matters most is remittance. The branch sends money to Indonesia in both rupiah and US dollars and receives incoming transfers, giving Indonesians in Korea a direct channel back to accounts at home through their own national bank rather than a third-party operator.
Beyond transfers, the branch offers deposit accounts in Korean won and US dollars, both savings and time deposits, so customers can hold funds locally. Its lending covers syndicated loans, working capital and investment finance, consumer loans and mortgages. A trade finance desk supports companies moving goods between the two countries, handling letters of credit on both the export and import sides along with bank guarantees.
The Seoul branch sits within BNI's wider overseas network, which also takes in London, Singapore, Tokyo and Hong Kong among others, and it carries the SWIFT code BNINKRSE for international transfers. Its Sejong-daero address places it among the ministries and corporate headquarters of central Seoul, a short walk from City Hall and Gwanghwamun stations on the subway, in the same stretch of the city that holds the Indonesian embassy's wider diplomatic presence in Korea.
The branch reflects a deeper trade and labour relationship between the two countries. Korea is a significant destination for Indonesian workers and a major investor in Indonesia, and a licensed Indonesian bank on the ground in Seoul gives both the worker sending wages home and the company financing a shipment a single institution that operates under both banking systems.
