About Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Indonesia in Nagoya

Indonesia's honorary consulate in Nagoya was inaugurated on 21 January 2022, when Indonesian Ambassador to Japan Heri Akhmadi appointed Sugimoto Hideo, a Japanese businessman, as honorary consul for the Aichi and Chubu region. The ceremony, attended by Aichi Governor Hideaki Omura and Nagoya Mayor Takashi Kawamura along with leaders of local companies, also marked the launch of the Aichi/Chubu-Indonesia Friendship and Goodwill Association, a body meant to deepen economic and cultural ties between the region and Indonesia. The office operates out of the headquarters of Rinnai Corporation, the Nagoya-based gas appliance manufacturer, at 2-26 Fukuzumi-cho in the city's Nakagawa-ku ward, a location confirmed in the Aichi prefectural government's own published directory of foreign consular offices. At the inauguration, Ambassador Akhmadi noted that roughly 250 companies based in Aichi prefecture already had investments in Indonesia, and that more than 6,500 Indonesian citizens were living in the area at the time, figures that underline why the region warranted its own honorary consular post rather than relying solely on the embassy in Tokyo or the consulate general in Osaka. As an honorary rather than career consular post, the office's stated role centers on promotion rather than routine passport or visa processing: encouraging Japanese investment into Indonesian manufacturing, automotive, infrastructure, agriculture, health, and education projects, and acting as a local point of contact for the Indonesian community and visiting officials in the Chubu region. Sugimoto, addressing the gathering after his appointment, said he was ready to do his best in the new role. No separate email address or website for the consulate has been published; the phone number below connects to the honorary consul's office directly. This listing fills a gap in central Japan, complementing the Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo, the Consulate General in Osaka, and the honorary consulates already established in Fukuoka and, since the same week in January 2022, Sapporo.
