For most of its existence the Indonesian mission in Britain worked out of 38 Grosvenor Square in Mayfair, an address it held from shortly after independence until the end of February 2017. On 1 March that year the embassy opened at 30 Great Peter Street in Westminster, a freehold building of roughly 60,000 square feet that Indonesia bought for around 40 million pounds. The premises sit a few streets south of Westminster Abbey, in the quieter government quarter rather than among the Mayfair squares.

The mission covers the United Kingdom and is concurrently accredited to Ireland, so Indonesians living in Dublin and elsewhere in the republic fall under the same post rather than a separate one.

Consular work accounts for most of what visitors come for. The office issues and renews Indonesian passports, handles document legalisation and notarial matters, processes visas for travel to Indonesia, and provides emergency assistance and protection to Indonesian nationals in difficulty. Beyond the consular counter, the embassy carries the wider diplomatic portfolio: political relations, trade and investment promotion, education links, and cultural programming.

Public hours run Monday to Friday, from 09:00 to 12:00 and again from 13:30 to 17:00, with the office closed at weekends and on official holidays. Requirements for passports and visas, including document and photograph specifications, are revised periodically, so applicants are expected to confirm the current list before travelling to Westminster.

The embassy's web presence has shifted. The long standing indonesianembassy.org.uk address now redirects to the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs portal, where the London mission keeps its pages and announcements.

Twenty ambassadors have led the mission across its history. Among them is Marty Natalegawa, who served in London before becoming Indonesia's foreign minister.

Great Peter Street sits in the government quarter of Westminster, within walking distance of the St James's Park and Westminster underground stations. The surrounding blocks are mostly departmental offices, which makes the area busy on weekday mornings and largely empty outside working hours.
